Event Codes let you delegate point-of-sale payment collection to others. Create a code for your payment page, share it with volunteers or helpers, and they can accept in-person payments (or scan QR code tickets).
Create an Event Code
Event Codes are ideal for bake sale booths, event check-ins, and anywhere you need someone else to collect payments on your behalf. You can generate one from the website or the mobile app.
From the website:
Open your sign up and go to the Share step. Select Share an Event Code. Click New Event Code to generate your code. Share the code using one of the available options:
- Copy the code — Click the link icon to copy it, then share it manually. Let recipients know they'll need to download the SignUpGenius mobile app first. Once installed, they'll select Get Started > I have an Event Code, enter the code, and they're ready to go.
- Send via email — Click the envelope icon to send a pre-built email that includes the code as an embedded link. Recipients just download the app and tap the link to get started.
- Share a QR code — Click the QR code icon to copy or download it. Share it however works best (email, text, printed flyer). Recipients scan it after downloading the app, and their Event Code fills in automatically.
From the mobile app:
- Log in and tap the sign up where you want to create an Event Code.
- From the Manage view, tap Event Code and toggle on Share an Event Code.
- Tap the link icon next to your generated code, then choose how to share it:
- Copy — Paste the embedded link wherever you'd like (email, text, etc.). Remind recipients to download the app before clicking the link.
- Send via messaging app — Select your preferred app to send the link as a text message. The Event Code pre-populates once they tap the link in the app.
See who's using your Event Code
Once your code is out in the world, you can keep tabs on how it's being used. Head to Share > Share an Event Code on the website to view a table showing:
- Who's using the code
- When they last signed in
- How many transactions they've completed
- The total amount they've collected
Deactivate an Event Code
You can deactivate a code at any time — useful when a volunteer's shift ends or you're wrapping up an event.
- From the Share step of your sign up on the website, select Share an Event Code.
- Find the Code status dropdown below your active code.
- Choose Inactive to disable it immediately. Anyone using that code will no longer be able to accept payments.
You can also generate a new Event Code instead of deactivating — just click New Event Code on the website or mobile app. The old code stops working right away, and the new one is ready to share. Note that you'll need to redistribute the new code to anyone who needs access.
When should you generate a new code? If a volunteer is no longer with your organization and may still have the old code, generating a new one keeps your sign up secure. Your user history table stays intact — new users will simply be added to the existing log.
Accept payments using an Event Code
Got an Event Code from an Organizer? Here's how to use it.
- Download the latest version of the SignUpGenius mobile app.
- Then, depending on what you received:
- 12-digit code — On the app's home screen, tap Get Started, then I have an Event Code. Enter the code along with your name and email, then tap Continue. You'll land in a simplified Manage view where you can start accepting payments or scanning tickets.
- Embedded link or QR code — After downloading the app, tap the link or scan the QR code. Your Event Code will pre-populate. Enter your name and email, tap Continue, and you're all set.
