Tips for faster point-of-sale checkout
- Cut down on lines by removing any item or form questions that aren't essential for in-person checkout.
- If you're using the Bluetooth card reader, don't pair it in your device's Bluetooth settings. It pairs automatically the first time you reach the Connect Reader screen in the app.
- When inserting a card into the Bluetooth reader, leave it in place until your device tells you to remove it, just like at any retail checkout.
- For cash or check payments, enter the amount tendered and the app will calculate the Participant's change for you.
Do I need an internet connection to use point of sale?
Yes. You'll need a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular connection to accept point-of-sale payments in the SignUpGenius mobile app. If you can load a webpage on your phone, you're set. Offline processing isn't available yet, so an internet connection is required while accepting payments.
Why do I need to enable location services, and how do I turn them on?
Location services enable geo-location, which SignUpGenius requires for point-of-sale payments. It helps reduce transaction risk and minimize payment disputes. Turn on location services for the app in your device settings.
Can I enable signatures for point of sale?
Yes. Signatures are off by default in the point-of-sale flow. Turn them on in the app's Point-of-Sale Settings.
Are there downsides to skipping name and email at checkout?
If a payment issue comes up, like a dispute or a refund request, it's harder to match the payment to a specific Participant without that information. Weigh the speed of skipping Receipt Information against the reporting you'll lose.
How do I turn off mobile app payment notifications?
On iOS or Android, open Settings, tap Notifications, find SignUpGenius, and toggle off Allow Notifications.
Can Participants pay by echeck with point of sale?
No. Sharing bank account information for an in-person transaction isn't standard practice, so echeck isn't available for point-of-sale payments. Participants can pay by credit card or cash/check.
