New to payments on SignUpGenius? You're in the right place. This glossary walks you through the key terms you'll encounter when setting up and managing payment pages so you can collect money confidently and keep things moving.
Available Quantity: When you create an item (or item variation), you can choose to limit how many are available. Once that number is reached, the item will no longer be open for purchase.
Banner Image: The large image that appears at the top of your payment page. You can add or update it when building your page under the Details section.
Basic Item: A flexible item type that works for almost anything — goods, services, event registrations, and more. You can set it up with a fixed price, open amount, recurring charge, or even make it free.
Category: A way to group related items together on your payment page with a label. Categories help keep things organized and make it easier for payers to find what they're looking for. You can also use categories to create a navigation menu on your page.
Donation Item: An item type built for fundraising. It supports fixed, open, and recurring amount options, giving your donors flexibility in how they contribute.
Echeck: An alternative payment method that allows payers to pay directly from their bank account using their account and routing numbers. This is an ACH debit transaction.
Form: A standalone set of questions on your payment page used to collect information from payers — great for gathering contact details, preferences, or other responses that aren't tied to a specific item.
Form Question: An individual question within a form. Organizers can choose from seven question types: open text, multiple choice, checkbox, time, date, phone number, and e-signature.
Item: The core building block of a payment page. Items have a dollar value attached and represent what payers are purchasing or registering for — think registration fees, merchandise, event tickets, or dues.
Item Description: A block of text that appears within an item when a payer adds it to their cart. Use it to add helpful context or details about what they're getting.
Item Image: An optional image you can attach to an item. If your item has variations, you can upload a different image for each variation.
Item Question: An optional question tied directly to a specific item. It appears as a small form once a payer adds the item to their cart (for example, asking for a registrant's name or a t-shirt size). Organizers can choose from six question types: open text, multiple choice, checkbox, time, date, and phone number.
Item with Variations: An item type that supports options like size or color. Each variation can have its own image, price, and quantity limit. Variations always use a fixed price.
Manager: Someone you invite to help manage your payment pages. Managers get their own login credentials but cannot withdraw funds. You can control what they can do, including creating, editing, viewing payments, and receiving notifications.
Manually Added Payment: When you collect an in-person payment without capturing the payer's contact information, the system records a placeholder email address to keep your records complete.
Payment Page: The page you create on SignUpGenius where payers can browse items, fill out forms, and complete their purchase. This is where everything comes together for your event, fundraiser, or registration.
Waiver: A form type that displays text — like a policy or permission slip — and requires payers to provide their name and e-signature before completing their purchase.
